Sea of Thieves Is Officially Coming to Battle.net Later This Month, with a Closed Beta First

Sea of Thieves is set to officially launch on Battle.net later this month, but first, a closed beta will be held for owners of the Deluxe and Premium Editions.

The closed beta will run until Monday, May 5. If you’ve purchased one of the eligible editions, you can head to Battle.net, install the game now, and jump into Season 15 while it’s still ongoing. All progress made during the closed beta will carry over to the official Battle.net release on May 22.

One thing you won’t encounter during this test is the previously increased Kraken spawn rate. The development team initially aimed to move the Kraken encounter from being an exclusive “Major World Event” into the regular rotation of world events. This change was intended to improve both event variety and overall game performance.

However, the team has rolled back this change because it caused the Kraken to spawn too frequently and behave more aggressively. As a result, the seas have become somewhat safer again, with the Kraken returning to its original behavior. The developers plan to revisit this feature in the future to ensure a smoother implementation.
